Simple, traditional items, cooked with love. That’s the guiding principle which inspires Vento Ariel’s menu. As you’d expect, fish takes pride of place: fish fresh as the whitecaps, newly culled from the ocean by the Camogli Fishermen’s Co-operative or the long- established Martini Fisheries.Grilled or fried, your own choice or a mixed selection; or why not try an anchovy mosaic (anchovies cooked in five different ways served together as a spectacular presentation dish)? Don’t miss the buridda di seppie [cuttlefish chowder], seafood risotto, spaghetti with shortfin squid in its own ink or the exclusive oven-braised wild spotted turbot cutlets. Those are just a few of the specialities you can try at the Vento Ariel restaurant. The ingredients change with the seasons – naturally. Vento Ariel does not use frozen foods. That’s why the menu is always different, because the fresh ingredients change, just like the seasons. For example, locally caught fish -- which Davide Groppi suggests should be accompanied by asparagus – may, according to season, be married with new potatoes, tomatoes, or (in September and October) with mushrooms. This scrupulous attention to detail shows what "quality" means to Vento Ariel.
Anchovies are the true speciality of the Vento Ariel restaurant in Camogli. In May 2006, Davide Groppi launched a real "Anchovy Festival", a special menu comprised of anchovy-based dishes:Hors d’oeuvres: Lemon-dressed anchoviesFirst course: Trenette “Ariel” – a type of spaghetti dish from an old Calabrian recipe book which has been "revised and corrected" by Davide Groppi. You can’t afford not to try it!Main course – Anchovies fried in breadcrumbs and served in blotting paper boats. The visual impact is guaranteed to be as amazing as the taste: in fact, in the old days, when our grannies did the cooking they used blotting paper to absorb excess oil from fried foods. The perfect end to the meal: “Temptation” – Two slices of tomato accompanied by salted anchovies. The special anchovy-based menu costs 30 Euros, excluding wine.
